Delivering Change, One EV at a Time

FedEx’s Nationwide EV Rollout Signals A Major Step In Malaysia’s Low-Carbon Transition.

As Malaysia steps up its transition toward a low-carbon future, one global logistics player is putting its words into motion, quite literally.

FedEx Express Malaysia has rolled out 41 new electric delivery vans (EVs) across key cities nationwide, marking a major milestone in its sustainability journey and Malaysia’s evolving logistics landscape.

These fully electric Maxus e-Deliver 3 vans can carry up to 920 kilograms and travel about 228 kilometres on a single charge, enough to cover the bustling daily delivery routes of Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Penang, and the Klang Valley.

Beyond the numbers, this new fleet represents a tangible step in reducing the environmental footprint of urban logistics. Collectively, these vehicles are expected to help avoid around 305 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, replacing diesel-powered counterparts with clean, quiet mobility.

Leading by Example in Malaysia’s Green Shift

FedEx’s investment goes beyond just vehicles. To support this rollout, the company installed 41 new charging stations at strategic locations across the country, both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) chargers, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations for its growing fleet.

This expansion aligns with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (2021–2030) and the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, which champions green growth and sustainability as key drivers of economic progress.

It also mirrors the company’s global ambition of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040, including a fully electric pickup and delivery fleet.

“The successful cross-border EV delivery between Malaysia and Singapore last year reinforced our confidence in the role electric vehicles can play in logistics,” said Tien Long Woon, Managing Director of FedEx Malaysia.

“This latest EV fleet expansion is a meaningful step forward in embedding sustainability into our day-to-day operations. It reflects our belief that innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, and we’re proud to be part of the collective effort toward a low-carbon future in Malaysia.”

From Local Deliveries to Cross-Border Milestones

FedEx isn’t new to electric mobility. The company introduced its first two EVs in the Klang Valley in 2023, followed by Malaysia’s first-ever cross-border EV delivery to Singapore in 2024, a pioneering achievement that earned recognition from the Malaysian Book of Records.

These milestones highlight how innovation in logistics can go beyond efficiency; it can redefine how businesses operate sustainably across borders.

Empowering Businesses with Data-Driven Sustainability

While FedEx focuses on greening its fleet, it’s also helping customers reduce their own supply chain emissions. Through FedEx Sustainability Insights, a cloud-based carbon reporting tool, businesses can now access real-time emissions data for their shipments.

This allows them to make smarter, more sustainable decisions, from shipping methods to route optimisation, aligning business goals with environmental responsibility.

This digital tool reflects a broader trend: companies are no longer seeing sustainability as a cost, but as an investment in long-term growth and resilience.

Connecting the World — Sustainably

Globally, FedEx continues to set the pace for sustainable logistics. In the U.S., the company recently purchased over 3 million gallons of blended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its Los Angeles operations, the largest SAF procurement by a U.S. cargo airline at LAX.

It’s a step that underscores the company’s commitment to reducing emissions not just on the ground, but also in the skies.

A Future in Motion

FedEx’s efforts in Malaysia show how corporate sustainability can create real, measurable impact, one delivery at a time. By pairing innovation with responsibility, the company is helping to build a logistics ecosystem that’s not only faster and smarter but also cleaner and more future-ready.

As Malaysia pushes forward with its sustainability goals, FedEx’s growing electric fleet is a reminder that meaningful change often begins with small, steady steps, and in this case, 41 of them.
