The Marathon Powering Malaysia’s Wellness Movement
A Global Run Attracting Runners From Over 30 Countries

International Positive Energy Half Marathon Aims to Put Malaysia on the Global Wellness Tourism Map
Running events today are no longer just about finishing a race. They have evolved into platforms that bring communities together while promoting healthier lifestyles, tourism, and economic activity.
The launch of the International Positive Energy Half Marathon and Sports Wellness Carnival reflects this growing trend, positioning Malaysia as a destination where sport, wellness, and community engagement intersect.
Scheduled to take place from 15 to 17 May 2026 at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil, the 3-day event will combine a large-scale running event with a vibrant wellness carnival designed to attract families, wellness enthusiasts, athletes, and international visitors.
At the centre of the event is the International Positive Energy Half Marathon itself, featuring three race categories. Participants can choose between:
– 21 KM Half Marathon.
– 10 KM Run.
– 5 KM Carnival Run.
The Carnival Run is designed to be accessible for beginners, casual runners, and families.
Organisers are targeting approximately 10,000 participants for the event, with about 30% expected to be international runners and visitors travelling to Malaysia for the experience.
With runners expected from over 30 countries, the event is poised to become a platform that strengthens Malaysia’s reputation as a destination for sports and wellness tourism.
According to Tourism Malaysia deputy director general for Promotions II, Samuel Lee Thai Hung, events like this demonstrate the country’s growing potential in attracting international participants while promoting healthy living and community engagement.
He noted that bringing together runners from around the world, alongside local communities and public agencies, reflects the wider effort to promote active lifestyles while supporting the nation’s tourism sector.
For KL Wellness City, the vision behind the event goes beyond organising a marathon. It is part of a broader movement to highlight Malaysia’s potential in the global wellness ecosystem.
Executive Director of KL Wellness City, Dato Sri Vincent Tiew, shared that the International Positive Energy Half Marathon and Sports Wellness Carnival is part of an initiative to position Malaysia as an international sports and wellness tourism destination.
The event is designed not only to encourage healthier living but also to foster social unity, positive values, and collaboration between the public sector, private organisations, and community partners.
Beyond the running routes, the Sports Wellness Carnival will transform the venue into an interactive wellness hub. Visitors can expect hundreds of wellness and sports exhibition booths, interactive workshops, health education programmes, and community-focused activities designed to promote holistic well-being.
A variety of public engagement programmes will also be held during the 3-day carnival, including health awareness initiatives, family bonding activities, motivational sessions, and lifestyle exhibitions that encourage participants to embrace healthier habits.
The event will also feature a lively food and beverage bazaar with more than 200 vendors, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore a diverse range of local flavours while enjoying the festive carnival atmosphere.
Importantly, the initiative is also tied to meaningful social causes. The event is expected to support organisations such as the National Cancer Society Malaysia and the Malaysia Scout Club through fundraising and awareness programmes held during the carnival.
This combination of sport, wellness, community engagement, and social impact reflects a broader shift in how large-scale events are being designed today. Instead of focusing solely on competition, modern marathons are increasingly becoming experiences that connect health, lifestyle, tourism, and social responsibility.
As Malaysia continues preparing for Visit Malaysia 2026, initiatives like the International Positive Energy Half Marathon and Sports Wellness Carnival provide a platform to showcase the country’s strengths in hosting international sporting events while highlighting its growing wellness ecosystem.
For runners, families, and visitors alike, the event promises more than just kilometres on the road. It represents a celebration of positive energy, healthy living, and the power of community coming together through sport.
