Sun Synergy Making Public Spaces Safer and More Accessible

Sun Synergy’s safety systems can be seen across many of Malaysia’s most well-known locations
How One Malaysian Company is Quietly Shaping the Safety of Our Cities
From the floor beneath your feet to the landmarks you visit daily, Sun Synergy is making Malaysia safer—one building at a time.
When tragedy struck Malaysia in 1993 with the Highland Towers collapse, the event shook the nation. For most, it was a moment of grief and reflection.
For one Malaysian entrepreneur, it became the starting point of a lifelong mission: to make buildings safer from the ground up.
Today, that mission is called Sun Synergy Sdn Bhd, a truly Malaysian company that has become a leader in flooring safety solutions across Malaysia.
Built on a Foundation of Safety
“Every building movement, every expansion and contraction matters,” says Michael Ng, Managing Director of Sun Synergy. “When these movements aren’t properly accommodated, structures can fail – with devastating consequences.”
For over two decades, Sun Synergy has been solving these very issues with a range of essential (yet often invisible) safety systems, like expansion joints, control joints, anti-slip nosing, tactile indicators, and entrance mats. These may seem like small details, but they play a big role in making public spaces safer and more accessible.
What started as a modest operation is now a company trusted by developers of the country’s most iconic projects. In 2023, Sun Synergy was recognised as one of SME100’s Most Influential Companies in Malaysia.
A Quiet Force Behind Malaysia’s Biggest Landmarks
You’ve probably walked over Sun Synergy’s products without even knowing it.
They’re installed in major transportation hubs like KLIA Terminal 1, LRT and MRT lines, and even on the skybridge that links the iconic KLCC Twin Towers.
Sun Synergy has also contributed to commercial centres like Mid Valley, The Exchange TRX Mall, Pavilion Damansara Heights, and almost every Sunway mall across the country.
In fact, for the recently completed Pavilion Damansara Heights project, the company supplied nearly 50 entrance mats and over 1,000 metres of control joints. For the Exchange TRX Mall, that figure doubled.
These safety systems aren’t just functional, they’re also designed to complement the architectural beauty of the buildings they protect.
Designing for People, Not Just Buildings
For Edwin Ng, Sun Synergy’s Business Development Director and second-generation leader, safety isn’t just about preventing structural damage. It’s about people.
“Building safety isn’t just about preventing catastrophes, it’s about creating spaces where everyone, including the visually impaired and mobility-challenged, can move confidently, independently and safely.”
A prime example is Nu Sentral, where Sun Synergy’s tactile studs and directional tiles have guided visually impaired commuters safely from the main station hall to the Monorail platform for years.
“These aren’t luxury features, they’re essential safety elements that should be standard in every commercial space,” says Edwin Ng. “Yet many developers still treat them as optional, focusing on aesthetics while overlooking this critical accessibility necessity.”
Partnering With Malaysia’s Top Architects
Sun Synergy has built strong relationships with some of Malaysia’s leading architectural firms, GDP, Veritas, SAA, RSP, and NRY, among others. Their team works closely with designers during the early stages of planning, ensuring safety is part of the blueprint and not an afterthought.
Their headquarters in Petaling Jaya doubles as a living showroom, featuring P5-rated anti-slip tiles, a full tactile guidance system, and even solar panels to power daily operations.
“Safety and sustainability go hand in hand,” Michael Ng emphasises. “By investing in proper flooring systems today, we protect people and resources for future generations.”
A Growing Role in Malaysia’s Infrastructure
Sun Synergy’s story is far from over. The company is preparing to contribute to the upcoming Rapid Transit System (RTS) connecting Johor and Singapore, a megaproject expected to reshape urban mobility in the region.
With each new development, Sun Synergy continues to push for higher safety standards across the built environment. Their message to developers, architects, and building owners is clear: flooring safety is not an optional feature; it’s a fundamental investment.
“Every building deserves the highest safety standard,” concludes Michael Ng. “From expansion joints to tactile indicators, these elements aren’t costly luxuries, they are investments that prevent accidents, lawsuits, and ultimately, tragedies.”
A Malaysian Company Making a Global Impact
In an industry where much of the work goes unnoticed, Sun Synergy has managed to build a reputation rooted in trust, performance, and long-term thinking.
Whether it’s enhancing accessibility in a busy mall or protecting the foundations of a towering landmark, their mission remains the same: to create safer, more inclusive spaces for all Malaysians.
For developers and business owners looking to build with purpose, Sun Synergy offers more than just products, it offers peace of mind.
