MILO Celebrates Malaysia’s Sporting Spirit Ahead of SEA Games 2027

Celebrating Malaysian Athletes and Rallying Support for Team Malaysia Ahead of SEA Games 2027

At the National Day Parade, MILO®, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, unveiled a specially curated float featuring Malaysia’s sporting heroes and Commonwealth Games medalists.

As Malaysia celebrated its 69th Independence Day, MILO® and the Ministry of Youth and Sports came together to highlight the role of sports in bringing Malaysians together, while building excitement towards the SEA Games 2027.

The collaboration reflected values that have long been associated with Malaysian sports, including determination, resilience, teamwork and national pride.

For generations, MILO® has been part of Malaysia’s sporting journey, encouraging active lifestyles and supporting young Malaysians in sports.

Working with partners such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Olympic Council of Malaysia, MILO® has supported grassroots sports programmes including the MILO® Champions Clinic and Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM).

As part of this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, MILO® is also serving more than 100,000 complimentary cups across various festivities around the country.

The initiative brings the familiar MILO® experience to Malaysians from different communities while celebrating the spirit of Malaysia Boleh.

Celebrating Malaysia’s Sporting Heroes

One of the highlights took place during the National Day Parade in Putrajaya on 31 August.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, MILO® unveiled a specially curated float featuring Malaysian sporting heroes and Commonwealth Games medallists who will represent the country at the SEA Games 2027.

The float featured elements inspired by the SEA Games and Malaysian identity, including the Jalur Gemilang, national landmarks and tiger stripe motifs representing the Harimau Malaya spirit.

A replica of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium was also featured, reflecting Malaysia’s preparations to host the 34th SEA Games.

MILO® vans followed the float during the parade, representing the brand’s long involvement in supporting sports development in Malaysia.

Through the initiative, MILO® hopes to bring the stories of Malaysian athletes closer to the public and encourage more Malaysians to support the national sporting community.

“Merdeka is a meaningful day which brings Malaysians together. Through our collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we hope to demonstrate how sports can connect Malaysians across generations, cultures and backgrounds,” said Ng Su Yen, Business Executive Officer, MILO®.

“For decades, MILO® has championed sports development in Malaysia, encouraging a more active and united nation. We hope this Merdeka celebration inspires all Malaysians to support our athletes in the upcoming 2027 SEA Games in our home country.”

Athletes Carrying Malaysia’s Hopes

Among the six athletes joining the Ministry of Youth and Sports float were national weightlifters Mohamad Aniq Kasdan and Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin, national lawn bowler Aleena Ahmad Nawawi, national para long jumper Eljoe Gotuoh and national wheelchair basketball athlete Freday Tan Yei Bing.

Beyond their medals and sporting achievements, the athletes represent different journeys in Malaysian sports and the determination required to compete at the highest level.

“Celebrating Merdeka and taking part in the National Day Parade is a truly special experience. I’m grateful to MILO® for the opportunity to be part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports float and spotlight our national athletes representing Malaysia at the SEA Games 2027,” said Mohamad Aniq Kasdan.

“We hope this would create greater awareness amongst Malaysians to come together and rally their support for Team Malaysia. Knowing the nation is behind us will inspire us to push our limits and give our best for Malaysia.”

For Aleena Ahmad Nawawi, the celebration was also a reminder of how sports can bring Malaysians together.

“It is truly an honour and a deeply special moment to celebrate National Day with all Malaysians. Today reminds us that the strength of Malaysia lies in our unity through sports. When we stand together and share a common dream, there is no limit to what we can achieve as a nation,” she said.

“For me, there is no greater source of inspiration than hearing the roaring cheers of our fellow Malaysians. Malaysia Boleh!”

Looking Towards SEA Games 2027

With Malaysia preparing to host the SEA Games in 2027, the celebration offered an early opportunity to rally Malaysians behind the country’s athletes.

It also highlighted the importance of grassroots sports development in building the next generation of Malaysian athletes.

For MILO® and its sporting partners, the journey towards SEA Games 2027 is not only about medals.

It is also about encouraging more young Malaysians to participate in sports, supporting national athletes and using sports as a platform to bring people together.

As Malaysia moves closer to welcoming athletes from across Southeast Asia in 2027, the hope is that more Malaysians will stand behind Team Malaysia and continue carrying the spirit of Malaysia Boleh.
